I loved every place we ate on our visit to Louisville and I could honestly write a post about all of them but for the sake of time and lack of photography, I will stick to highlighting my recommendations for the most important meal of the day and the most delicious treat in Kentucky.
Brunch at Toast on Market
I read somewhere that Toast on Market has the best pancakes in Kentucky but I am a savory girl in the mornings and I went with a poached egg dish. Boy, was that a mistake! My bestie Clare ordered the lemon, blueberry ricotta pancakes and not only were they beautiful, but they were honestly the most delicious pancakes I have ever tasted. Of course, because I foolishly didn’t order them, that was all I got- a taste.
The breakfast beverage menu was also impressive. With four bloody mary options including favorites like the Bloody Derby, four mimosa options like the Kentucky Mimosa (which included bourbon and bitters, of course) AND a full espresso menu, there really is something for everyone!
The best news of all is that Toast serves breakfast every day of the week! We enjoyed our brunch in their year-round covered patio and it was perfect. You really can’t beat exposed brick and bistro lighting!
If you’re looking for more of a grab and go morning solution, make sure you check out my coffee spot recommendation!
Ice cream at the Comfy Cow
I understood almost immediately why Comfy Cow made it to Buzzfeed’s list of 27 ice-cream places you need to visit before you die. Thanks to our visit’s proximity to Louisville’s signature event, the Kentucky Derby, we got to sample all (thank you, kind boys that work at the Westport Village Comfy Cow location) of this year’s signature Derby flavors. It was a hard decision but I ended up settling on the Old Fashioned! It had the perfect hint of bourbon with a subtle orange cherry swirl that I just loved. Had I been in a chocolate mood (which I usually am) the Chocolate Bourbon was incredible! The good news is, you will get a taste of Kentucky from a visit to the Comfy Cow no matter the time of year because Bourbon Ball is one of their year-round signature flavors!
