Diane and I have spent a weekend in NYC almost every summer since our paths crossed during a semester in England eight years ago. One of the things that we credit for keeping our long distance friendship alive is our mutual love for Gossip Girl. The scandalous lives of Manhattan’s elite inevitably influence our summer trips and this weekend was no exception.
We kicked off our weekend in Central Park with popsicles at the fountain, rowboats in the pond and a bottle of champagne at The Loeb Boathouse. After a perfect afternoon in the park we headed to the Met with an agenda: see the ManusXMachina Fashion exhibit, have a drink on the rooftop and get a classic “Spotted on the steps of the Met” picture. We selected this past weekend for our annual pilgrimage so that we could experience the Belmont Stakes. We met up with our dear friend Cade, donned our big hats, placed our bets and sipped champagne from sun up till sun down. The difference between watching the race on a screen and actually feeling the wind from the horses as they cross the finish line is incredible. We didn’t win a dime but the experience was incredible and I can’t wait to go back!Diane and I booked our stay at Chuck Bass’ hotel on the Upper West Side. The Hotel Empire was perfect and I can’t imagine ever staying anywhere else in the city. From the broody lobby bar to the spectacular rooftop lounge we could have been content spending the whole weekend in the hotel.
The Hotel Empire’s signature cocktail is appropriately named, The Chuck Bass. The delicious drink lived up to its name and I spent my first day back in Richmond trying to master making it myself. Of course nothing beats enjoying this cocktail on the roof of the Hotel Empire but if you want a taste of Chuck Bass at home, you’re welcome.
To make this refreshing cocktail you will need:
- 1.5 oz of honey water
- 1.5 oz of citrus infused vodka
- 2 tbs of fresh lemon juice
- Sparkling wine
Put your honey water, vodka and lemon juice into an ice filled cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously and pour into a champagne flute. Top the glass off with sparkling wine and enjoy immediately.
I want to thank the incredibly kind staff of the Empire Hotel for a truly memorable stay.
“So until next time, you know you love me – XOXO, Gossip Girl.”
