Spring is in the air, and wedding season is upon us. Wedding season means shower season, and shower season can be a surprisingly stressful gifting situation. After attending countless bridal showers and being a bride myself, I think I have finally found the perfect shower gift giving formula.
Pre-bride me was under the misguided impression that the registry gifts were suggestions in case you couldn’t come up with anything creative. Having now been a bride myself, I have a much better understanding of the registry process and I truly appreciated every registry gift I received. Registering for your wedding is an incredibly fun but time consuming process for the bride and groom. Giving them a gift that they took the time to discuss and select is a the opposite of being “uncreative;” it is honoring their wishes.
All that to say: I still find myself struggling with the urge to avoid the kitchen utensils and towels that I know the bride needs in favor of something unique that I have convinced myself she will really appreciate. I think the best solution for this sort of bridal-shower-gift-giving-angst is to simply give the bride two gifts! One that she registered for and something creative. Below are a some of my favorite gifts with which to shower the gorgeous bride-to-be that might not be on her registry.
They say that successful couples have shared interests or hobbies and for our sake, I hope cooking counts. Trying a new recipe is such a fun evening activity and Daniel and I absolutely love spending time in the kitchen together. The Newlywed Cookbook was composed by a kindred spirit who agrees that sharing food together at the table makes for a happy couple!
One of our other favorite things to do together is to share a bottle of wine or a finely crafted cocktail. Our engagement party had a “stock the bar” theme. My maid of honor provided gift tags for each of our guests to tie to what ever bottle they brought us indicating when we could open it and who it was from. Some of my favorites were “when you get a dog,” “when you close on your first home” and “when Dan leaves a wet towel on the bed.” (This friend clearly had insider information on my pet-peeves.)
Opening each bottle on each occasion has been so special for us. I love the idea of paring this adorable Miss to Mrs. wine tote with a bottle of champagne and instructions to “pop in celebration of officially changing your last name” or some other special occasion.
This adorable recipe box is also inspired by one of my favorite wedding gifts. My mother-in-law put together a lovely ceramic recipe box filled with recipes she had collected from the kitchens of our friends and family. Giving the bride a recipe box with a few of your favorite handwritten recipes is sure to be treasured and appreciated for years to come.
Lauren Conrad is one of my favorites and her book Celebrate is the perfect guide to entertaining. She wrote the majority of this book during her first year of marriage, so it addresses many of the events a new bride has to look forward to.
Daniel and I received a breakfast tray as one of our wedding gifts, and it has been such a fun thing to have for lazy a Sunday morning brunch in bed or to hold our wine and cheese for a movie night. There is something so intimate about breakfast in bed that every bride and groom is sure to appreciate.
These earrings make me smile and are a fun cheeky alternative to the classic Mrs. earrings. They would make a great honeymoon accessory and I can see any bride finding occasions to wear them for years to come.
I find that shower gifts are typically kitchen-centered and this gorgeous rolling pin is such an eye-catching kitchen accessory. Ours lives on our kitchen counter and is frequently complimented by guests. I can’t imagine any bride who likes baking wouldn’t drool over this beauty.
Elegant red wine glasses are a point of pride when hosting and none compare to these “scandalously” tall, stemmed beauties. A set of these accompanied by a bottle of your favorite red wine is sure to be a winner.
I hope this gift guide comes in handy for your next bridal shower! What is the best bridal shower gift you have seen or received?
