Even a casual observer of design trends would be able to tell you that white marble has been seriously trending for the past few years. I can’t open a catalogue, design magazine or Pinterest without being flooded with its beautiful milky whiteness. Craving the aesthetic that white marble offers, without the nail-biting anxiety that would come with preparing food on such a delicate surface, inspired me to collect ways to incorporate this perfectly porous stone into our home.
A few weeks ago, I was able to combine two of my great loves – marble and subway tile – to give our recently reopened fireplace a much needed face-lift. The result (pictured at the bottom) is even lovelier than I imagined and the experience has only fanned my desire to find ways to bring this amazing stone into our home.
I have combed Pinterest and some of my favorite retailers to collect some beautiful inspiration for my fellow red wine lovers who, like me, need that pop of white marble in their life but not on their kitchen counters.
You don’t have to make a mess like I did, reopening our old fireplace, to get some marble in your life. There are charming ways as simple as these coasters. And if you’re like me and just can’t let go of having white marble in your kitchen, have a look at Crate & Barrel’s collection of “Marble Kitchen Accessories” that are all perfectly drool-worthy (and won’t break the bank). For instance, I am obsessed with my new marble rolling pin that I got for Christmas and certainly have my eye on snagging one of these eye-catching utensil holders.
Another favorite way to incorporate marble into your home is through these useful yet oh-so-attractive trays. The best thing about a marble tray is that it makes sense in virtually any room in your home! They can casually hold candles and hand towels in your bathroom; they can function as part of your coffee table decor; or, you can put them next to the bed to catch your jewelry and hold a vase of fresh flowers!
Who wouldn’t love the idea of having a classic french bistro table and chairs in their home? I am dying to tuck one of these tables in the corner of our living room by one of the big windows. I can’t imagine a better space to sip my coffee in the morning, blog with a glass of champagne or set up a chic candlelit dinner for two when the dining room feels too formal and the kitchen too casual.
There are few things I find more peaceful than a clean white bathroom. Adding the gentle, organic movement that marble offers seems a logical step. There is also something much less nerve-wracking to me about having marble counters in the bathroom where I
never rarely drink red wine.
I have always loved the look of marble fireplaces and am so pleased that Daniel and I got to add one to our first home. I’ll admit that all the half finished projects can feel overwhelming at times but living the process makes it makes each completed product all the more gratifying. We still need to grout and I can’t wait to add a statement mirror over the mantle but I was too excited with this stage of “production” not to share!
