It’s our first snow day in the new house and I couldn’t be happier. Last week we finished opening up our old fireplace and putting up the marble subway tiles (details in a post to come). Since we haven’t had the chimney relined yet, we are enjoying the charming effect of a hearth full of ten little flames.
My ideal snow day is spent next to the warmth of a fire with something warm to drink in my hands, watching the snow fall through the windows. Today, I made us hot toddies, grabbed my favorite faux fur throw and snuggled with Dan and Chloe on the floor. The hot toddies were the perfect drink for our first time snowed in and I hope it becomes a “first snow tradition.”
I made my first hot toddy recently thanks to a simple recipe in my new Kate Spade book. Conveniently, the ingredients are relatively common, so you may be able to enjoy one without braving the icy roads!
You will need:
- Herbal Tea (I used honey chamomile)
- 1 oz Bourbon (I recommend investing in some Hudson Baby Bourbon on your next liquor run)
- 1 tsp Honey
- Optional lemon juice to taste and cinnamon stick for garnish.
While your tea is steeping, put your honey and bourbon in your mugs to marinate. After your tea is ready, pour it over your bourbon and honey, stirring with your cinnamon stick or spoon.
Enjoy and stay warm out there!
